Story

An art piece from the “Wearable Sculpture” series by artist Kelly M Noonan All the lines created by the many layers of this banded agate reminded me of a spider’s web. These lines juxtaposed with the prongs made from silver disks creates an interesting geometric contrast. The circles of metal are like dew droplets suspended on a web glistening in the early morning sun. The Dreamcatcher originates in the Native American Indian Ojibwe culture as the "spider web charm" and was used as a protective charm for infants. Said to catch any harm that might be in the air as a spider's web catches and holds whatever comes in contact with it. The center stone in this eye catching piece is a banded agate. With a closer look you can see a sheen as light moves through the stone. This is a result of an incredible number of bands or layers within the agate laid on during the formation of the stone, as many as 9,000 layers per inch! This produces the intriguing movement of light within the stone when held to bright light. The piece is displayed suspended so that this effect can be appreciated, and is best placed before a bright light like a window or lamp. The u-shaped tubular bail is set with a labradorite. Another unusual stone that reflects an iridescent linear sheen when shifted in the light. The stand is formed from an aged green copper tube bent in a circle to reflect the circles in the pendant. The copper is mounted into a block of laminated swirl sandstone which echo the banding in the agate. All is mounted onto a platform of American maple wood. The entire piece is 15 inches high by 10 inches wide and 4.25 inches deep The jewelry piece hangs from a 20 inch snake chain and the pendant is 3 inches wide by 4.25 inches high, it hangs a total of 26 inches long Agate, Argentium sterling silver, sterling silver, labradorite, sandstone, copper, maple wood
